Churchgoers Targeted – Dem Elites’ Quiet Contempt?

Top Democrats secretly look down on churchgoing families, American flags, and the SUV in your driveway, according to conservative commentator Laura Ingraham, who says this contempt sits at the core of the party’s elite worldview.

Quick Take

  • Ingraham says Democratic elites view patriotism, churchgoing, and large families as “stupid.”
  • She claims the disdain stretches to suburbs, SUVs, and the American flag itself.
  • Democrats point to their own platform, which calls religious freedom a “core value.”
  • Some Democratic lawmakers say they are “reclaiming” patriotism and the flag in 2025 and 2026.

Ingraham’s Case Against the Democratic Elite

Laura Ingraham built her argument years ago in her book “Shut Up and Sing.” She wrote that elites in Hollywood, politics, and the United Nations think regular Americans are “stupid” for loving their country. She said they view patriotism, churchgoing, and flag-flying with scorn, and that they “despise families with more than two children”.

Ingraham has repeated that message on Fox News for years. On “The Ingraham Angle,” she described recent elections as a fight between “millions of Americans who love this country” and “elites who despise the average American”. She has also warned that under a Democratic president, religious institutions that hold traditional views on family and sexuality would be “shunned, punished, and ultimately silenced”.

A Message Ingraham Has Repeated for Years

Ingraham’s warnings go back further than this election cycle. In 2018, she opened her show by saying “the America that we know and love doesn’t exist anymore” in some parts of the country, pointing to what she called forced demographic change. That framing has stayed consistent: Democratic elites, she argues, don’t just disagree with conservatives on policy. They see traditional American life itself as something to be fixed or replaced.

This isn’t a one-time complaint. It’s a years-long argument that shows up in her books, her radio show, and her Fox News segments. For Ingraham, the SUV, the flag, and the backyard barbecue aren’t just symbols. They’re proof that Democratic elites have built a worldview that treats ordinary American habits as something embarrassing or backward.

Democrats Push Back With Their Own Words

Democrats have an answer on paper, at least. The party’s official platform states that “religious freedom is a core American value and a core value of the Democratic Party,” and promises to protect every American’s right to practice their faith freely. The Democratic National Committee’s faith outreach page echoes that, saying the party “embraces people of all faiths.”

Some Democratic lawmakers have gone further, trying to claim patriotism back for themselves. Representatives Pat Ryan and Chris Deluzio handed out American-made flags to colleagues, saying “the flag, and the values it stands for, belong to every single American”. A 2026 opinion column framed this as the start of Democrats reclaiming “old-fashioned patriotism.”

Words on a platform page are one thing. Many conservative voters will judge Democrats by their actions, not press releases, especially on fights over religious liberty, family policy, and cultural issues that keep landing in courtrooms and school boards across the country. Ingraham’s critique taps into that gap between what party documents promise and what voters feel they’re actually seeing from the loudest voices on the left.
